Is there a best time to sleep? There is a saying that sleeping early and waking up early is good for your health. How true is that? Is it alright to sleep late and wake up late?

You actually have an amazing biological clock ticking inside your body. It is very precise. It helps to regulate your various body functions including your sleeping time.

From 11pm to 3am, most of your blood circulation concentrates in your liver. Your liver gets larger when filled with more blood. This is an important time when your body undergoes detoxification process. Your liver neutralizes and breaks down body toxins accumulated throughout the day.

However if you don't sleep at this time, your liver cannot carry out this detoxification process smoothly.

Sliding glass doors are very common in U.S. homes, usually as entry doors to a backyard, deck, or patio area. If you are like many homeowners who live in older homes, you may find that your sliding glass door is in need of some basic repairs. In this article, we'll address some of the most common problems afflicting older sliding glass doors, as well as some simple and low cost repairs you can do yourself.

Houses will often settle with age and become slightly out of square. This is a natural result of changes in the soil around your home's foundation. However, when a home settles, it sometimes results in doors that don't open and close well, including sliding glass doors. If your sliding glass door no longer slides properly, you should inspect it to see if it has fallen out of square. Look at the top and bottom of the door. If it's out of square, you may notice a slight crack at the top or bottom, especially when you are attempting to slide the door back and forth.

The first and most simple solution to an out-of-square door is to adjust the door's rolling wheels. With most sliding doors, there are two roller wheel assemblies under the door, allowing the door to move back and forth easily in its track. To adjust these wheels, look for small holes in the face of the lower frame. Sometimes these holes will be plugged with small caps that are easily removed. You can insert a screwdriver in these holes to turn the adjustment screws, moving the wheels higher or lower, as needed.

If this doesn't correct the problem, another option is to shim the door. This is slightly more work, because it involves removing the interior trim around the door. Once the moldings are removed, you'll see that the patio door frame was installed and shimmed into the opening. You'll probably also see that it is no longer perfectly in square. You can take out or loosen the screws that secure the door frame in place, and then re-square the door, shimming it out as needed. Once the door frame is square again, screw it back in place, and then you'll be ready to reattach the trim molding again. Re-squaring your door will not only make it operate more smoothly, but it will also make it more energy efficient, as this will eliminate small cracks that let in cold or hot air from outdoors.

Another common problem afflicting old patio doors is that the handle and latch mechanism may be worn or even broken. A sliding glass door handle is very easy to replace, once you find the correct hardware. If you cannot find the correct replacement handle at your local hardware store, look online or in specialty catalogs. You may have to remove the old handle on your door and take some critical measurements to determine the correct replacement parts. The important areas to measure are door thickness, the distance between holes drilled in the door, and the style of strike in the door jamb. Replacing your old worn out hardware might also give you an opportunity to upgrade of a higher security handle and lock, if that is of importance to you and your family.

Lastly, older sliding glass doors can receive a much needed face-lift with some simple cleaning. If your door's frame is looking dull and worn, first get out the garden hose and wash it down. Use a soft bristled brush and some lukewarm soapy water to remove the dirt from the exterior frame. On the inside, the door frame can be wiped down with a damp rag, and the roller track can be vacuumed out and then wiped as well, which will also improve roller function. Finally, if you wish, wax the frame with a good grade of automotive wax to bring back the door's original luster.

Keeping your sliding glass door in good condition is one important part of maintaining your home. And since repairing a patio door is far less expensive than buying a replacement, it only makes good sense to maintain your door for as long as possible. With some basic preventative maintenance and occasional repair work, anyone can keep their sliding glass door in good condition for many years.

It works like this: to focus on nearby objects, the ring shaped ciliary muscle around the lens contracts, making the lens rounder and thicker. To focus more on distant objects, the ciliary muscle relaxes making the lens flatter and thinner.

If you do these activities (reading books, working in front of a computer, etc) for long periods of time, and very regularly, then eventually your eyes will get used to focusing only at near distances, the ciliary muscle will get used to being in a state of contraction, and your far vision will start to deteriorate and become blurry.

Understand that evolution designed your eyes to focus and both near AND far distances. Primitive man had to hunt and be able to see clearly at far distances, but modern man spends a lot of time indoors with artificial lighting and focusing predominantly at near distances. That is why there is now widespread myopia and more and more people who need glasses. Because people do not use their eyes the way evolution designed them to.

The good news is that nearsightedness can be reversed. What you need to do is start using your eyes, without your glasses, and focus more at far distances. Going for a walk outdoors and looking at distant scenery is a good way to improve your eyes ability to see at a distance. There are also specific eye exercises you can do that loosen the tension and relax your eye muscles so that you can regain your ability to see at far distances.

Understand that everyone is meant to be able to see clearly at all distances, this is what is normal and natural. Wearing glasses isn't a natural state. Moreover, wearing glasses perpetuates the problem because it makes your eyes get used to seeing imperfectly.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines noise pollution as "harmful or annoying levels of noise." While that definition may be a tad brief, it does get the point across. Wikipedia has chosen to define noise pollution as: "excessive, displeasing human, animal or machine created environmental noise that disrupts the activity or balance of human or animal life." Some might speculate that noise is just noise and how could it really have any sort of effect on one's health. Well, if you have ever been woken from a restful sleep by a barking dog or car alarms, you have felt the stress of noise pollution. Imagine experiencing that scenario every single instance you tried to sleep, for a long period of time. The inevitable buildup of stress and lack of sleep would cause a whole host of physical and mental health issues.

With regard to extreme noise levels, most people are well aware of the damage that can occur to our hearing. Trauma to the eardrum through violent vibrations will cause permanent ruptures, damage to the membrane around the inner ear and the collapse of the cochlear structure. How can we protect ourselves from noise pollution? It would be impractical to move everyone to rural areas, as they would quickly become urban areas. Some city planners and architects are coming up with ways to buffer traffic noise at the source by constructing noise barriers, limiting vehicle speeds, altering roadway surfaces and using different traffic controls that promote a smoother flow of traffic. These methods are a great start, but what about noise from airports, construction or even just a loud neighbor? Positioning Your Conservatory or Orangery

Where you position your conservatory or orangery in respect to your property can have quite an effect on how you use it. Two key criteria need to be considered before you agree the designs, 1) the position of your conservatory in relation to the sun, and 2) the position of your conservatory in relation to your property. We will explore both now.

The positioning of your conservatory/orangery in relation to the sun

North Facing
A north facing conservatory or orangery will need a bit of planning if you are planning to use the building all year round. It will receive much less direct sunlight so you will need to consider heating and insulation to ensure it is comfortable to use during the cold winter months.

Less direct sunlight will bring advantages since you will get less of the greenhouse effect enabling you to use the room comfortably all year round (assuming you have heating). So from that point of view it would make an ideal office or something similarly.

So initially a north facing conservatory or orangery may appear like the worst of the four options, but some people often prefer it especially if they are going to put their conservatory or orangery to this sort of use.

East Facing
Since the sun rises in the East, an east facing room is ideal for breakfast rooms. They are perfect for the morning coffee on a balcony experience, but at least with this you are shielding yourself from the weather. In addition, easterly winds can blow quite cold so you would need to consider the heating options to ensure you can use it all year round.

South Facing
A south facing room will get most of the sun for most of the day. The easiest and most common place to put a conservatory or orangery is at the back of your property. Planning permission is easy plus you get the benefit of the garden at the back of the property which is usually much more private than the front or the side.

Hi there! Welcome to the world of independent living! Perhaps it's your first time to live on your own, away from your parents, away from your old neighbors. Now I assume you have already settled down everything in your new apartment. The couches are in, the television set is functioning and you have just stocked your fridge with food that will last the whole week.

But wait, does your refrigerator sound noisier than when you first bought it? True, living independently has its perks but now, you have to deal with this problem alone. You can always take your refrigerator to the repair man but how will you know if it's a real problem? To save your time, effort and of course, your money, you have to be able to know when you can take action or when time to have the fridge repaired.

Here are the common problems many households experience all over the globe.

1. My fridge is not cool enough
For it to be able to function properly (its main function being the preservation of your food), your fridge should have a temperature between 38-40 degrees Fahrenheit. If you sense that your fridge does not give off enough coolness, or is already giving warm air instead, first check your thermometer. If it really has a warmer than usual temperature, try to adjust the thermostat controller inside the refrigerator..

If after 6 hours the temperature still did not change, check the fan if it's running. If it runs fine, check the condenser coils. Some models have their condenser coils at the front while most have them in the back. Remove the protective cover and vacuum the accumulated dust and dirt. You can also use a stiff brush. If the dust and dirt have hardened or if they are greasy, wash with soap and water.

You can also try defrosting the fridge. Remove all the perishable foods and items from your fridge and from the freezer. Turn the refrigerator and the freezer off and leave all the doors open overnight. Replace the food in the morning, turn the thing on, put the thermostat to a middle setting and check the temperature after 6 hours.

After cleaning the condenser coils and defrosting the freezer and you still find the temperature warm, check the door seal. In some cases, broken door seals do not seal off the cool air inside the fridge and so warm air can enter. If the seals are broken, you will have to go to your local store and replace them with new ones.

2. My fridge leaks
This is a very common refrigerator problem. Water (that is hopefully not flooding your kitchen floor right now) may come from different sources from inside the fridge. If your refrigerator has a water or ice dispenser, it is highly possible that the lines to the dispenser are broken. Once these lines are broken, you may have to replace them with new ones.

If your refrigerator unit has a defrost tray or a drain pan underneath, try to check it for holes and cracks. You can also try to clean your drain tube. It can be in the floor of the refrigerator or at the back, on top of the wall. Use a turkey baster to clean it and put a mixture of half gallon hot water with a half cup of bleach through the opening. This solution will go into the drain pan. After cleaning the drain tube, empty the drain pan.

There may also be water on the ceiling of your fridge. This may come from a clogged drain in the freezer. If water comes from this source, try unclogging your drain or remove the divider of your fridge and freezer and then dry the insulation.

3. My fridge gives off a loud noise
Also one of the most common refrigerator problems, noisiness of the fridge is now often dismissed as a basic feature of the said appliance. However, most of the time, noise is one sign that there's something wrong with your unit.

Noise, like water leakage, may also come from different sources but more often than not, it comes from the inside. If the noise is coming from the inside of the fridge, it is very likely that your fan is causing it. Oftentimes, especially if your fridge has been with you for quite a while, the fan will gradually become noisy, making chirping, squealing or even groaning sounds. To find out if it's causing the noise, open the door. If the noise becomes louder when the door is open, have your fan checked.
