Chiropractic care facilitates a more comfortable transition from early to late term pregnancy and through to postpartum recovery.

No one has said that pregnant women should silently endure the aches and pains of pregnancy. The good news is that pregnant women do not have to suffer these pains that result from a changing body posture.

As Chiropractors, we will assess your spine and pelvic joints to see if there are certain areas that are not moving as easily as they could. We perform many of the same tests that your physician does to determine that you are in perfect health: a complete history, orthopedic exam, neurological exam, and a postural exam to see how your body is adapting to your pregnancy.

If we find that you have areas in your spine or pelvic joints are not moving properly, we usually adjust them. The choice is yours as to whether we adjust or not. What is important to remember is that a chiropractic adjustment will allow the areas of your spine that are stuck to move again, which will relieve your discomfort.

The pelvic area is of great concern to Chiropractors. The pelvis is essentially a ring made up of four bones: the sacrum, which is the triangular bone at the base of your spine, the tailbone that is attached to your sacrum, and the two hipbones of your pelvis.

These four bones are held together by many ligaments and connective tissue. Relaxin, the hormone of pregnancy, is released in the body from early on in the pregnancy to soften these ligaments to allow better passage of the baby during labour and birth.

What can happen later on in the pregnancy is that the ligaments stretch quite a bit, to the point of overstretching. The sacroiliac joints (where the sacrum meets the pelvis) can become quite moveable and walking can become a challenge.

The pregnant waddle can be noticeable as a woman walks because, at this point, the sacroiliac joints move too much and the body locks the sacrum into place by causing the womans feet to turn out and for her to lock her knees. With a Chiropractic adjustment, the sacroiliac joints are able to move in a more normal position and the woman is able to walk more easily.

The goals of Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy are to ease the pregnant womans areas of discomfort and to help promote a more stable pelvis. A study done in 1990 showed that women who were under Chiropractic care throughout their pregnancies had reduced labour times.

First time moms experienced 25% less time in labour and birth and moms with previous babies averaged 31% shorter labour times. Also, another study done in 1991 showed that women who experienced back pain during their pregnancies had a 72% chance of having back labour during labour and birth. Back labour isnt pleasant and Chiropractic care can help ease back pain.

Chiropractors are interested in relieving your aches and pains throughout your pregnancy and during your postpartum period. Immediately after birth, your body experiences another great posture change and your back needs to adapt to not having a pregnant belly anymore.

The posture of breastfeeding can cause great discomfort in the midback, especially between the shoulder blades. There is the constant lifting, bending, stooping, carrying the car seat about, rocking, walking and so on. Life with a new baby is definitely another time where chiropractic care can help your body more easily. Once again, we keep the fixed or subluxated areas of your spine moving smoothly.

After birthing a baby, your body continues to produce relaxin for approximately the next four months, but in a gradually decreasing amount. This process helps the ligaments to slowly tighten back around the spine and the rest of the joints in the body. Chiropractic care can keep the joints in your spine and pelvis in optimal alignment as your ligaments pull back into place around the joints of your spine.

In this present era of computing people requires to sit in front of computers for long hours and this has lead to new kinds of disorders. These day people experience neck pain or back pain normally in their lives.

Such pains can be acute, meaning it lasts a few hours to a few weeks, or it can be chronic. Neck pain that persists for several weeks or longer is considered chronic neck pain. Most causes of neck pain or back aches are caused due to poor posture at work, such as leaning into your computer, and during hobbies, such as hunching over your workbench, are common causes of neck pain.

But sometimes such pain can signify something more serious. If your neck pain is so severe that you can’t touch your chin to your chest, seek immediate medical attention.

Such disorders are treated by a special branch of medical science called Chiropractic. Chiropractic is a health care discipline that deals with diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

It is generally considered as a complementary and alternative treatment, a characterization that many chiropractors reject. The treatment involves manual therapy which includes manipulation of the spine, other joints, and soft tissue; treatment also includes exercises using chiropractic tables, chiropractic equipment and health and lifestyle counseling.

Spinal manipulation, which chiropractic professionals call “spinal adjustment” or “chiropractic adjustment”, is the most common treatment used in chiropractic care.

Spinal manipulation is a manual passive maneuver during which a three-joint complex is taken past the normal range of movement, but not so far as to dislocate or damage the joint; its defining factor is a dynamic thrust, which is a sudden force that causes an audible release and attempts to increase a joint’s range of motion.

Here are some techniques which are employed to fix such disorders.

Diversified technique (employing various techniques, full-spine manipulation), extremity adjusting, Activator technique (which uses a spring loaded tool to deliver precise adjustments to the spine), Thompson Technique (which relies on a drop table and detailed procedural protocols), Gonstead (which emphasizes evaluating the spine along with specific adjustment that avoids rotational vectors).

And thenCox/flexion-distraction (a gentle, low-force adjusting procedure which mixes chiropractic with osteopathic principles and utilizes specialized adjusting tables or chiropractic tables with movable parts), adjustive instrument, Sacro-Occipital Technique (which models the spine as a torsion bar), Nimmo Receptor-Tonus Technique, Applied Kinesiology (which emphasises “muscle testing” as a diagnostic tool), and cranial.

Chiropractic is a branch of health care that aids the maintenance of a properly functioning nervous system. It especially focuses on the spine, as it is the structure that which enables our nervous system to carry out its operation.

Though that is the case, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it only focuses only on back ailments. It aims to restore human physical condition at its optimized state.

Chiropractic means “effective” treatment by hand; and that is exactly what it does, to treat and prevent diseases by adjusting improperly working areas of the musculoskeletal system of the body without the use of chemicals or drugs. It’s basically natural, safe, and painless.

Chiropractic’s core treatment entails spinal manipulation, which is the handling of the spine along with soft tissues. Chiropractors are not that different from other regular doctors as they go through processes such as the consultation, physical exams, and laboratory and x-ray analysis, among others.

As we’ve noted, the spinal cord is the main point of evaluation. Improving its form or condition will enable patients to feel better as it may remove any abnormalities or negative health conditions. Chiropractors are not limited to diagnosing and addressing problems within the spine.

They also assist patients in planning their nutritional needs and exercise, to promote overall physical and mental health. Chiropractors endorse a healthy lifestyle along with the maintenance of the nervous system.

It’s quite a common belief that people don’t need chiropractic care as long as they do not experience extreme neck or back pain. Chiropractic care has a vast array of benefits, much more than the typical notion of many. This also depends on the number of adjustments done.

Posture correction is one of the many obvious benefits of chiropractic. Apart from this and pain relief in the head, spine, neck, and the joints, it helps the nervous system function better - this is important as this system controls every action that our body need.

An improved nervous system increases mobility, range of motions, muscle movement, gives better balance and coordination, and decreases stiffness, among others. It also provides a superior immune system. Diseases may be fought off easier as one would also be able to heal and recover from injuries faster. The risk of injury also goes lower.

It boosts tissue healing and reduces its inflammation. Working adults also will find their stress and tension relieved. This gives off more energy and productivity from them. It’s not only for adults though, even kids can benefit from this practice. Kids will be healthier as it minimizes bed-wetting, asthma, ear infections, etc.

Other common benefits of chiropractic:
- Breathing becomes easier
- Vision becomes clearer and sharper
- Improved circulation
- Allows better relaxation and sleeping
- Athletic performance is enhanced
- Improved digestive system

These are among the many benefits chiropractic has for a patient. It can considerably change one’s life as it improves a patient overall condition. It provides renewed vigor and can change a patient’s lifestyle for the better for the long-term.

http://www.BeyondChiropracticClinic.com offers only the best in chiropractic, physical therapy, massage, and nutritional programs that Fort Collins has to offer.
Back, pelvis, and neck pain have been primary complaints of pregnant women for decades.

Unfortunately, many of the standard recommendations for relief of such pain such as sleeping with a pillow between the knees, taking warm baths, etc., simply don”t cut it for a large portion of expectant mothers.

On the brighter side, chiropractic care for soon-to-be moms may solve not only pain problems, but other pregnancy/delivery problems, as well.

How Chiropractic Care Works

The human body holds a complex musculoskeletal system, with the bones and muscles working much like levers and pulleys to facilitate desired movement. This is connected to the body’’s neurological system, since nerve impulses control the muscular movement that pulls on the bones.

When the skeleton is misaligned, pain results because nerves and muscles become pinched or strained, and because the misalignment often creates excess pressure on the joints. Chiropractic adjustments work by realigning the skeleton, thereby relieving the nerve, muscle, and joint problems.

How Does Chiropractic Care Help Moms-to-Be?

When a woman is pregnant, the musculoskeletal system is required to accommodate the excess weight of the pregnancy. Although some of this weight is distributed evenly throughout the body as maternal fat stores, the majority of the weight is gained in the abdominal region and is made up of amniotic fluid, the fetus, and placenta.

With gravity pulling against this extra weight, the body has to work harder to stay upright because so much weight is in one area. As the body tries to compensate for this shift in its center of gravity and to deal with the weight, the musculoskeletal system gradually becomes strained and pulled out of alignment.

This is made worse by the fact that hormones released during pregnancy cause the joints to become looser so that the bones in the pelvis eventually can shift enough to allow the baby through the birth canal. The result is pain, most commonly in the lumbar, pelvic, and neck regions. Seeing a chiropractor during pregnancy can alleviate these problems.

Another benefit to chiropractic care during pregnancy that often is not discussed is an easier delivery. When the pelvis of a mother is misaligned as a result of the pregnancy, the baby sometimes can have a more difficult time turning into the correct position for birth because the pelvic bones are misaligned and therefore in the baby’’s way.

While this does not mean the baby cannot be birthed, it can result in problems such as shoulder dystocia, which can mean longer, harder labors and which can become life-threatening for both mother and baby without intervention.

By contrast, an aligned pelvis during delivery ensures that the baby can turn correctly and thereby encounter minimal resistance through the birth canal.

There Are Benefits, But Is It Safe?

When done correctly, chiropractic care poses minimal to no risk to the mother and baby. However, because there are multiple chiropractic techniques, a pregnant woman should make sure that the ones her chiropractor employs are low pressure (i.e., that the bones are shifted gradually back into place rather than quickly popped into alignment). This is because the hormones of pregnancy make the joints particularly loose, which can result in overcorrection.

The main side effects of chiropractic care for pregnant women are the same as for non-pregnant individuals. These side effects may include headaches, tiredness, and soreness in the treated region.

This is mainly because the shift back into alignment can put the treated region into stress until the muscles, nerves, and bones become adjusted to their new, correct placement.

These are usually temporary. However, chiropractic care also can be considered safer than other treatments (especially during pregnancy) because it is a natural remedy and therefore does not have the complications that drugs or surgery could have.

Are There Other Things to Consider?

Pregnant women are advised not to lie on their back for long periods of time because the weight of the baby can press on main arteries that supply blood to the child.

For this reason, pregnant women should make sure that their chiropractor adjusts them carefully in positions that take this into consideration. Many chiropractors also have special tables with a place cut out for the belly so that the mother does not need to lie flat on her back.

Women who already have hypomobility of the joints previous to their pregnancy should be particularly careful of the type of chiropractic adjustment they receive during gestation.

The hormones of pregnancy can worsen this hypomobility and can make the risk of injury from a hard adjustment higher. For this reason, some chiropractors are hesitant to work on pregnant women, particularly those with this condition.

Because medications can affect how the body reacts to the chiropractic adjustment, pregnant women need to discuss any medications they are taking with the chiropractor. This includes prenatal vitamins and supplements.

Pregnant women also need to discuss any previous physical conditions, pregnancy-related and otherwise, that may affect the effectiveness of the adjustment or which may cause injury if left unknown to the professional.

The current obstetrician seen should be aware that chiropractic care is being sought so that medications and recommendations from the obstetrician do not conflict with the chiropractic care.

The Bottom Line

Although a pregnant woman may experience some minimal side effects from a chiropractic adjustment, the benefits of chiropractic care that is correctly given outweigh the risks.

As long as the chiropractor is well-informed of the pregnancy and other medical conditions and treatments, chiropractic care is a safe, effective, natural remedy to pain related to pregnancy misalignments and can help the mother to deliver more easily.

Chiropractic medicine is an alternative, and often referred to as complementary, approach to treating spine problems through positively affecting a person’s nervous system.

The profession believes that a dysfunctional spinal joint interferes with a person’s nervous system which can lead to ill health.

Much of the profession is split into different schools of thought; some believe in only performing treatment that is expected to work based on evidence, while others do not believe that solid evidence is necessary.

Because of the nature of the chiropractic health care profession, it can often be hard for people to find a chiropractor school that is suitable for their needs. Further more, many people now require the services of an animal chiropractor which can be very difficult to come by.

The Chiropractic Association

Regardless of how you come across a Chiropractic clinic or chiropractor, you should always find out if they are a member of The Chiropractic Association. This is the industry body for the chiropractic community, so you should expect that they are a part of it.

You can also use The Chiropractic Association to find a local chiropractor who is registered with them. Although this method will return a qualified chiropractor; that does not necessarily mean that it will be someone that is suited to you.

Ask Your Friends and Family

Asking your friends and family if they know of a chiropractor can be a great idea. There is no better way to find out about a reliable service provider than through people that you trust. You can also find out how they found their service, and if they felt they could feel an improvement as a result.

Find Out What Your General Practitioner Thinks

You should find out what your GP thinks before trying to contact a chiropractor. If they do feel that it is a good idea and suitable for any ailments that you are experiencing, then perhaps they will be able to refer you to a chiropractor directly. In some cases the cost of this could be covered by the National Health Service, so it is certainly worth asking them.

Need an Animal Chiropractor?

If you need a chiropractor that is able to treat animals then you are not alone. This is becoming more and more common as pet owners start to realise that their pets are experiencing similar symptoms to humans, and that chiropractic medicine could well be the answer.

If you are not able to locate an animal chiropractor in your area, then you should consider speaking to your local vet. Although your vet may not agree with the idea of your animal being treated with chiropractic medicine, they should be able to give you valuable advice, suggest whether it is suitable, and tell you where to find a good practitioner that will work with animals.

By Todd Brown

“Nothing Can Stop A Trane”… That’s what I read this morning on the side of a big white truck, as I was pulling out of the health club parking lot.

“What the heck does that mean”, I thought to myself. “What are they selling?” Luckily, I was able to catch a glimpse of the company name also on the side of truck… “Tod’s Air Conditioning”

As the truck pulled out in front of me, I sat there for a few minutes thinking, “Hmmmm, maybe Trane is the type of air conditioner they install. Maybe it’s the certification company behind their staff. Maybe it’s the tools or machine they use to fix people’s air conditioner.

Or, maybe it’s the name of their parent company or something.” It wasn’t until many hours later that I found out what they meant by “Trane”, when… like the computer nerd I am… I went online and Google’d it.

Fact of the matter is, how many people who see that truck, do you think actually take the time to find out what their tagline means by going online and doing some research? What do you think… uhhh…. maybe… NONE! (With the exception of the token person like me who has an insane passion for marketing.)

So, what’s that mean exactly to the company with the tagline? Well, that unless someone’s an air conditioning insider, they’re not going to have a clue what that tagline is supposed to mean to them, so the company’s hard-earned advertising dollars are completely wasted.

It’s a mistake soooo many companies and professionals make in their marketing, chiropractors included. They make the mistake of trying to be cute in their chiropractic marketing instead of trying to be compelling.

Rule #1 with your chiropractic marketing: It’s better to be compelling and benefit-driven than it is just to be cute simply for cuteness sake. Personally, I think this idea of crafting a memorable tagline has it’s roots in the brand advertising approach of many of the Fortune 500 companies.

Therapists see the way lots of big companies have these neat little cutesy taglines, and they follow in their footsteps with the creation of a similar-style tagline for their practice.

Unfortunately, what most chiropractors don’t understand is that those big Fortune 500 companies have a different aim and objective with their advertising than that of the typical chiropractor.

While the average chiropractor wants a response from their chiropractic marketing (i.e. new patients), the big companies are using these taglines in their advertising, NOT because they want response, but because they’re after brand recognition.

Funny thing is, most of the time, marketing research shows that even though we remember lots of taglines, we don’t always remember the company who it belongs to.

Not only that, but, in many marketing studies, results show that even on the occasion that we do remember the company the tagline belongs to, we don’t necessairly purchase any of their products or services, and certainly not MORE products or services because of
the tagline.

So, when using a cute, memorable tagline, companies may get some additional “recognition”, but they don’t necessarily generate additional customers or sales. Meanwhile, that’s the entire point of your chiropractic marketing: to get new patients. Period.

Everything you include in your chiropractic marketing, should increase the response you’re aiming for (i.e. generate you more leads, more new chiropractic patients, more referrals, etc.). So, how do you do that with your tagline, if you’re using one?

Well, for one, don’t try to come up with a tagline that people will remember. Instead, come up with a tagline for your practice that conveys a big promise and desired benefit to your target market. In other words, if you’re going to use a tagline, use a tagline that states the big unique benefit prospective patients are going to get with you that they won’t from any other chiropractor.

Give prospective patients a powerful reason, in your tagline, to choose your chiropractic practice for their care. Be crystal clear in what patients get with you that they don’t elsewhere.

When in doubt, say it like it is. Again, it’s always better to be clear and concise, than it is to try and be cute, and lose the clarity of your chiropractic marketing message. Always remember, your goal when using a tagline is to make chiropractic WITH YOU more enticing, more interesting, more beneficial, and
more unique.

Returning, quickly, to our earlier example, here are three ways the air conditioning company could have improved significantly on their “Nothing Stops A Trane” tagline:

“The Only Air Conditioning Unit You Never Have To Worry About” “An Air Conditioning Unit Designed To Continually Give You Cool Air While Conserving Your Home’s Energy!”

“The Only Air Conditioning Unit From One Of Fortune Magazines List Of Most Admired Companies” Now, think about how you can improve on your chiropractic practice’s tagline.[]

Similar to almost every branch of medicine, technology is stretching its reach and improving the field of chiropractic medicine.

Medical professionals, industrial engineers and software engineers have worked together and contributed knowledge from their respective fields in order to construct groundbreaking solutions to prevent injuries.

Considering the high-demand and growth of chiropractors on a national scale, an increased need for managing the different factors of the business has become evident.

Doctors and office management the same face the challenge of efficiently streamlining the business process. Many kinds of software programs are accessible for chiropractic offices. Depending on the need and size of the specific practice, resources are extensively available by searching the Internet.

In spite of the abundance of information on these software programs, office managers may find difficulty in choosing the program that is ideal for their needs.

Chiropractic software comes in a wide variety, and the most basic one available is the 3D modeling software that permits patients to see a computer rendered view of the bone structure, while the chiropractor explains the injuries.

This type of powerful Chiropractic software allows the doctor to pinpoint specific vertebrae in the spinal cord while the injury is displayed on the screen.

Simulation software is used to imitate the effect of probable scenarios with the spinal cord when certain stresses are applied. This kind of chiropractic software is used to study the possible causes of stress and injuries to the back. Chiropractors are then able to share their discoveries with their patients.

With this information, patients can maintain postures that will assist them avoid such injuries. An alternative version of chiropractic software, and a very popular application when it comes to the field of professional sports, is the use of this type of simulation software combined with a motion capture apparatus.

With these state-of-the-art technologies, medical professionals can advise athletes on proper posture and form, not only to prevent injuries, but also for better performance.

Software is available for almost every imaginable area of chiropractics and managing practices. Certain programs allow doctors to quickly note and examine information while patients are being treated.

These programs are especially beneficial in that they can save precious time better spent treating patients. Other programs are available to help the office staff. Retrieving and filing medical records has become much more organized and easily accessible.

As oppose to fiddling with thousands of records in a filing cabinet, with just the touch of a button, office management can recover essential information on specific patients and in turn, pass on that information to the doctor much more quickly and efficiently.

Even though the majority of practices acknowledge dyer the need for a high-class chiropractic software program, it may be a disheartening and exhausting job to find software for your precise needs.

Various experts believe a crucial step in deciding on your software needs is to consult the office staff. Seeing as your staff will make use of any office management software, it is imperative to detect what their needs may be. Advise the staff to come up with a list of what they would ideally like to have in a program.

After a list is put together, you should then submit it to your software vendor to see what they can provide. Not only will this give a good idea of what your practice desires, but it will also give you insight to the capabilities of your vendor.

Having a good vendor with knowledge of the software you need is a mandatory step in streamlining your office management.[]

Making chiropractic flyers is just like making flyers for any other kind of business.

Many industries enjoy the benefits of flyer printing to enhance theirbranding and image, develop new leads, and create predictable marketingcampaigns in terms of ROI.

However, you need to ensure that your flyer printing job is carried out without any problems. Many of the common problems and issues that are made in flyer printing can actually be avoided very easily.

Here are seven tips on flyer printing for chiropracticpractices to help make sure your flyers are the best they can possibly be without ordering re-prints!

1.Always check with your printing company what their printing regulations and guidelines are. Every printing company is different so you will need to make sure you know what their bleed size is, what resolution they need for the images and what format they need the files in.

2.Make sure you check that all images and fonts are embedded or expanded within the files. This will avoid missing images and incorrect fonts on your flyer printing job. The printing company may not have the fonts you do, so to make sure your text comes out just the way you want it, embed the font in the file or expand the appearance of your text.

3.Always check the little details on your chiropractic flyer. Spelling punctuation and grammar are vital elements of any flyer design and need to be 100% accurate to avoid giving your business a bad appearance to potential customers.

4. As a chiropractic business owner or manager, you are probably used to long and complicated words in your every day work. However, your customers are not so clued up on back problems and such.

It’s a good idea to use common terminology where ever possible to make sure that your customers can understand you. Your flyer won’t appeal to someone who needs your services if they don’t realize they do.

5.Many people who suffer from back problems and other conditions that require chiropractic services often do not know that a trip to your clinic could help them.

Make sure your chiropractic flyer includes information on symptoms such as headaches that many people don’t associate with back problems. This will help people to realize that they need your services.

6. Make your flyer designs look clean, crisp and professional. People need to be able to trust that you are a professional company.

They want to know you are intelligent, safe, and professional and know exactly what you are doing so that they can feel confident that you are going to give them medical benefits and not end up breaking their back. Choosing the right flyer design can make the world of difference to the way in which your customers see your company.

7.Lastly, no chiropractic flyer printing project is successful without the aid of a dedicated distribution strategy. You need to ensure you utilize a variety of methods to get your business noticed.

Find Chiropractic Training in the United States and Canada. If you’re one of the many interested students in search of alternative healthcare education, then a chiropractic training program may be an ideal option for you.

Today, many chiropractic training programs, including undergraduate, graduate and doctor of chiropractic courses are accessible to applicants in a variety of chiropractic schools across North America.

In many cases, students may apply for scholarships, financial aid and student loans to acquire this education (including federal Pell grants, and federal Stafford loans).

However, it is essential that students review prospective chiropractic training programs as most chiropractic colleges and universities require prerequisite education from a traditional college or school.

Undergraduate studies offered through a number of chiropractic training courses include bachelor degree programs in biology, business, nutrition, psychology and related subjects of study.

Graduate studies through chiropractic training courses may involve master’s programs in chiropractic sports science, exercise and fitness, and other associated topics. Most chiropractic training programs offer pre-chiropractic courses (for those who have not yet achieved basic enrollment requirements), and doctor of chiropractic training as well.

The doctor of chiropractic training course entails an extensive curriculum. Students participating in this particular course of study will gain immeasurable knowledge and skills in how to take patient histories, perform physical and neuromuscular examinations, assess patient’s psychological state, effectively communicate, clinically diagnose, apply critical thinking and problem resolution, manage casework, educate patients, and manage business.

Additionally, practical chiropractic training will include learning about nutrition, chiropractic history and philosophy, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, radiology, pathology, microbiology, diagnostic imaging, chiropractic technique and procedures, and other elective courses.

In most cases, to successfully complete chiropractic training, the student must have acquired a minimum of 4,200 hours classroom hours and internship.

Most chiropractic training programs, however, are longer than the required minimum, and can be completed in as little as 4 years for full-time programs, and up to 8 years for part-time* studies (not all chiropractic schools offer part-time coursework).

Once students have achieved chiropractic training and have graduated from one of several accredited chiropractic colleges or universities, it is important to recognize that most states require licensure in this field, and to maintain licensure, chiropractic practitioners must receive annual continuing education courses.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding quality chiropractic training, let career training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore career school programs near you.[]

Chiropractic is a holistic approach to medicine. It is based on using manipulation as a means of treating musculoskeletal dysfunction of the spine and extremities.

Practitioners refer to themselves as alternative care physicians. There is a wide range in treatments, depending on different chiropractors. These treatments can be categorized into four main concepts.

1. Traditional straights

This is the old classic approach to chiropractic. Chiropractors use the principles that DD and BJ Palmer laid out in their original concept of chiropractic. This is based on the principle that vertebral subluxations is the root cause of most diseases. They feel that vertebral subluxation interferes with the human nervous system to cause dysfunctions in the human body.

Because of this they do not diagnose the patient for particular diseases but merely look for “red flags” to indicate serious diseases. Treatment will be carried out according to the chiropractor’s methods of treatment. The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) endorses the traditional straights concept.

2. Mixers

These chiropractors expanded on the early teaching of the Palmers (Palmer College of Chiropractic.) and included more diagnostic and treatment approaches. They formed different schools like the National College of Chiropractic. They feel that vertebral subluxations are a form of joint dysfunction.

They eliminate all other possibilities for known disorders and take note of any spine mechanical dysfunctions. They will base their treatments on these factors. Organizations endorsing the Mixer concept are the European Chiropractors Union and American Chiropractic Association.

3. Objective straights

Are a minority group of chiropractors. They are a recently formed group. They concentrate on the correction of vertebral subluxations, without diagnosing the patient. Typically they do not refer patients to other physicians but do encourage them to see medical doctors for diagnosis of their symptoms.

Their treatments are mainly limited to spinal adjustments. Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations (FSCO) and the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA) endorse this concept.

4. Reform

These chiropractors believe in manipulation as a valid treatment for musculoskeletal problems. They use palpation and manipulation as a means for diagnosing and treating painful join conditions. They have a similar concept to Mixers but do not use other alternative medicine treatments.

There is still a lot of controversy about chiropractic methods as many chiropractors do not rely on the conventional forms of diagnosis. The medical profession feels that it may not be effective as it is not based on actual diagnosis. However many people claim that chiropractic has helped them with their problems.[]
