While catching up on this week’s news the following news story presented itself on the Wall Street Journal:

Study Finds High Obesity Rates in U.S. 4-Year-Olds
April 6

CHICAGO — A striking new study says almost one in five American 4-year-olds is obese, and the rate is alarmingly higher among American Indian children, with nearly one-third of them obese.

Researchers were surprised to see differences by race at so early an age.

Overall, more than half a million 4-year-olds are obese, the study suggests. Obesity is more common in Hispanic and black youngsters, too, but the disparity is most startling in American Indians, whose rate is almost double that of whites…[Read more]

Wearing “husky” sized clothes as a kid made me self-conscious enough around other kids when I was little. I imagine kids that grow up knowing the term, obese will present a hard obstacle for many kids to overcome as they grow up.

How would you describe your child’s health and eating habits at home?

I am 25, overweight, and I will do something about it! Over the next 17 weeks I will participate in a Weight Watchers at work program to shed pounds and become a healthier person.

Why Change?

I am 5’8,” 210 lbs with a 43 inch waist. To put this in perspective, I weigh enough to qualify for the heavyweight division in boxing and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC.) Armed with this knowledge, I want to change. I need to change my habits.

What is My Goal?

In 17 weeks I would like to weigh 175 lbs and rock a 36 inch waist.

Additionally, there is another reason for making changes. I believe I am a great single guy that has trouble connecting with women I find attractive because of my weight. By losing weight, I hope to eliminate this sense of insecurity around women and make a difference in my dating life.

Why Weight Watchers?

I have heard many great things about Weight Watchers from friends and colleagues at work. Since my company holds Weight Watchers meetings every Tuesday and pays for half of the enrollment fee, I have no excuse now do I?

Have you been a part of the Weight Watchers program?

I look forward to chatting with you over the next 17 weeks and sharing my experiences.

– Weight Watchers Guy
